INTRODUCTION

Is air pressure strong enough to do some damage ?
You can not feel the air pressure. But you can see the effect of a change in air pressure.
you need a really large beaker, heater, empty soda can, tongue.

PROCEDURE

Fill the large beaker with water. (the beaker has to be larger than the soda can)
Fill the soda can with a little bit of water. not too much. (less than 1 inch)

Boil the water inside the can with the heater. be very careful. don't burn yourself.
Once you see vapor coming out of the can, grab the can with the tongue
and immerse it, upside down, in the cold water.
What happens ? _______________________________________

ANALYSIS (at home)

1) Under what conditions does the can collapse ?
A very heavy weigh is necessary to crush the can. What is it ?
(hint: remember, we are not crushed by he air because the pair pressure inside our body balances the air pressure outside our body.
If the balance is broken , like when you climb a mountain, damage can be done)
